Noelle Kelly, Gavin Schnall, Lucas Ciocan, Anthony Lopez, Owen Anderson, and Emma Herman brought the house down with a stellar performance at the Illinois Music Educators Conference! It was an incredible honor and experience for all of them. Congratulations and thank you for representing South High and District 99!
12 student musicians from Downers Grove South have been selected to participate in the 2023-24 Illinois Music Education Association All-State Bands, Orchestras, and Choirs. Student musicians submitted video auditions, which were evaluated by an esteemed panel of adjudicators. The top placing scores participated in the District Music Festival, held on November 18, 2023! From there, the highest rated students from district festivals across Illinois earned the title of All-State musicians!
To not only complete such a rigorous audition process, but to be placed among the top musicians in the entire state is a testament to the work and dedication these students show. Please join us in celebrating this wonderful accomplishment! The South High School community is proud to have them represent us at the Illinois Music Educators Conference in Peoria (January of 2024). The Art Throwdown is a live, fast-paced, 90 minute head-to-head, interscholastic Visual Arts competition. Within various art disciplines and media, such as drawing, painting, design, sculpture, and digital photography, students put their artistic skills to the test. This is done all while competing against 40+ other area high school art students.

Congratulations to the student musicians from Downers Grove South High School who earned placement, by competitive audition, into the 2023 Illinois Music Education Association All-District Band, Choir, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, and Jazz Choir. Participating musicians submitted audition videos to the ILMEA, and all videos were adjudicated by a panel of professional musicians. The top placing scores were selected for participation in the District Music Festivals, which will be held in November.

DGS Friends of Fine Arts Membership Drive!
Greetings Downers Grove South Fine Arts Community Members,
Thank you for your time. I’m happy to announce that today marks the beginning of our 2023 Friends of Fine Arts Membership Drive. This is extra special because it’s a return to action after a couple of years off. On behalf of our president Ms. Ann Andreshak and all involved, we welcome you to FOFA!
The Friends of Fine Arts are a volunteer organization of parents, educators and community members supporting and promoting the Fine Arts at Downers Grove South High School. If you have a student in the Arts, you are automatically a member. However it would be incredible for you to become a contributing member. Your membership and contributions go a long way in ensuring that every students has access to quality experiences in the Arts:
Through gifts and service, DGS FOFA is dedicated to:
Providing private lesson scholarships as well as music and art summer grants to every student we can, to increase access for all.
Enlightening classroom experiences through guest clinicians, artists, entrepreneurs, and conductors.
Purchasing equipment for Fine Arts instruction that extends beyond the district’s financial obligation.
Supporting Fine Arts events with publicity, volunteers, and hospitality.
Advocating and communicating Fine Arts activities and student achievement in the Arts to the broader artistic community.
MEMBERSHIP
Our membership drive begins today with a lofty goal of at least 100 new contributing members. Again the primary purpose is to increase access for EVERY student. We have much to do and your support is greatly appreciated. You can become a contributor by:

The Downers Grove South football field was put to good use July 31st through August 11th! This competitive marching band took the field all day everyday for two weeks to kick-off their season. These mustang musicians learned marching fundamentals, worked to memorize their show music, and made great memories along the way. A huge thank you to all of the family volunteers for feeding the band, band dads for working on props, and Jen Hasselhorst for taking these beautiful pictures!
