Scholarship Cookie Dough is Here!

We are pleased to announce our annual “Scholarship Dough” fundraiser, offering Savory Foods fresh cookie dough, gourmet caramel corn, and many other delicious treats!

This sale is a very important fundraiser. All proceeds support scholarships, which are open to all Fine Arts students. To help us reach our financial goal, we are asking every participant to sell at least one unit.  

●     Each unit costs $15.

●     Your name and program (orchestra, art, band or choir) must appear on the order form with a parent or guardian cell/text number.

●     Collect payments with your orders.

●     Please make all checks payable to Downers Grove South Fine Arts.

●     Orders are due on or before March 19th.

●     Product Delivery day is Tuesday, April 24th. No storage is available. All orders must be picked up between 2:00pm and 6:00pm.

2018 IHSA Solo and Ensemble Results

Student musicians from South High School in Downers Grove participated in the 2018 Solo and Ensemble Contest sponsored by IHSA and hosted this year at Joliet Central Catholic High School

Students prepare solos and ensembles and play for an expert adjudicator, receiving both a score and a rating, and, formative feedback for improvement.  Additionally, students performing solos must play scales from memory, demonstrating technical mastery on their instruments outside of their prepared solo work.

In total, over 50 students participated in over 35 different events.   30 students performed as soloists, and  26 students formed 7 different ensembles during the course of the day.  Students from both the bands and the orchestras from South High School participated in this event.

"Regardless of rating or score, we are proud of every student for choosing to pursue musical growth through this process."  said Fine Arts Department Chairman Glenn Williams.  "The individual growth that occurs through studying and performing chamber music is substantial."

Two events during the course of the day earned a perfect score, 40/40, from the judge in their performance room:  Allie Brandt, clarinet;  Genevieve DuFresne, alto saxophone.

Singing Hoosiers!

 South High School Fine Arts was proud to welcome the world renowned Singing Hoosiers from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University this evening.  After a DGS Chamber Ensemble opened the evening, the Singing Hoosiers thrilled the patrons in attendance with a vibrant and artistic concert performance. 

South High School Fine Arts gives a huge "shout-out" to Ahona Mazumder (Class of 2014.)  Ahona is a member of the Singing Hoosiers, and, is their tour manager.  It was great to see Ahona and all the other Singing Hoosiers sharing their love of choral music with the audience in attendance. 

World renowned Singing Hoosiers visit South High School

The world renowned Singing Hoosiers visited Downers Grove South High School today.  Director Chris Albanese and undergraduate music education majors worked with members of the South High School choirs in preparation for the upcoming choir show, providing immediate formative feedback on how to improve vocally and with movement. 

The Singing Hoosiers will perform in the auditorium at South High School tonight at 7:30 PM.  Admission is free and the public is cordially invited to attend and experience this world renowned choral ensemble.

Singing Hoosiers to perform at Downers Grove South High School!

South High School Fine Arts is proud to collaborate with and sponsor a concert by the world renowned Singing Hoosiers.  The concert will begin at 7:30 PM in the auditorium at South High School.  Admission is free, and the public is cordially invited to attend and experience this world-class choral ensemble.

DGS Artists Honored at 5th IHSAE Art Exhibition sponsored by IHSA

Congratulations to the DGS Fine Arts students who were selected to exhibit work the the Illinois High School Art Exhibition's annual General Exhibition.

Special congratulations to Emmanuelle Copeland for winning one of five Visionary Awards for her painting "Laughter," and to Emma Ansah for winning an Honorable Mention for her drawing "Held Back."  Emmanuelle also won a scholarship to attend American Academy of Art's Early College Program.  Emma also won a scholarship to attend the Cleveland Institute of Art's Early College Program.

The Illinois High School Art Exhibition is a non-for-profit corporation whose mission is the advancement of visual arts education through exhibition.  Developed by teachers for students in 2014, the organization is run by full-time art educators who collaborate with corporate sponsors, art schools/colleges/universities, and participating public, private and charter high schools to celebrate and award the artistic talents of Illinois high school art students.

Congratulations and thanks to District 99 Visual Art teachers Mr. Josh Hoering (Board of Directors and Portfolio Coordinator) and Ms. Katherine O'Truk (General Exhibition Awards Coordinator) for the spirit of volunteerism and service to the IHSAE staff.
