Western Michigan University Jazz at South HS

From Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the "Nonette," coached by Dr. Scott Cowan, performed for bands at South High School this morning.  This ensemble is one of the best in the country, annually winning Downbeat Magazine "deebee" awards for sonic excellence.  In addition to primo ensemble playing and fluent improvisation, the group also serves as a vehicle for student arranging and composing.  Multiple selections heard in the two period recital today were original student pieces.

"We are thrilled to host this amazing ensemble at South High School." said Fine Arts Chairman Glenn Williams.  "It is a great thingn for our students and for WMU to continue to strengthen this relationship."
