Expanding the boundaries of the classroom......

The music suite at South High School in Downers Grove is full today with outside experts leading musical learning and expanding opportunities for Mustang musicians.

A representative from Blue Lake Fine Arts camp is listening to student musicians audition, providing a pathway to potential scholarships to attend this prestigious summer arts program in Twin Lake, Michigan.

Dr. Scott Stewart from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, is working with every band ensemble today on performance repertoire and musical concepts. Also a teacher of leadership skills, Dr. Stewart will work after school with the Marching Mustangs leaddership team and later in the evening with the 2012-2013 Marching Mustangs to develop leadership skill throughout the ensemble.

Composer Michael Shelle is working with Concert Orchestra and Symphonic Orchestra today, discussing both what it is like to be a composer, and, how to perform his music. The D99 Orchestra will perform a concert of Michael Shelle's music on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 7:00 PM in the auditorium at South High School.
