On Saturday, November 22, 2008 Community High School District 99 at Downers Grove South High School will host the IMEA District 1 High School Music Festival. More than 600 student musicians from more than 100 area high schools will rehearse for 5 hours and present a culminating concert. Led by nationally renowned guest conductors, the four performance ensembles (9-10 Choir, Honors Choir, Honors Band and Honors Orchestra) will produce some of the finest high school performances in the state of Illinois.
WHAT IS IMEA: With more than 5,000 members, we are one of the largest of the 52 affiliates of MENC: The National Association for Music Education, over 100,000 members strong. IMEA is, by far, the largest Fine Arts education organization in Illinois and among the largest in the Nation.

WHO WILL PARTICIPATE? More than 600 performers, 100 directors and over 1,000 audience members from just over 100 Chicago land area high schools.
WHY DO THIS EVENT? To facilitate musical excellence for student musicians; to provide a forum for area directors to collaborative; to showcase some of the finest high school performers in Illinois.
WHERE IS THIS EVENT? In 2008, this event will be hosted at Downers Grove South High School. This event rotates annually to area schools. Recent hosts include Lincoln-Way Central High School and Oak Park-River Forest High School
