Parade Performance Reminders ...

  • Eat a good breakfast.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • If possible, leave personal instrument cases at home, or in your personal car, and arrive on campus with just your instrument.
  • The DGN band room will be open for students to retrieve instruments that are currently at school.  DGS instruments used in the Thursday practice will be available from the mini bus.
  • Arrive at DGN in khaki shorts (longer than your finger-tips), a solid white t-shirt (no tank-tops, please), tennis shoes and white athletic socks (no sandals of any kind).
  • No sunglasses (unless prescription), no hats, flags, face paint, etc.
  • Uniform polo shirts (purple & blue) will be distributed inside the Field House. Enter through the large door within the stadium complex.
  • When the parade ends, students will be dismissed near the Community Bank of Downers Grove (1111 Warren Ave.).  *** Note: All uniform polo shirts will be returned at that time.
  • Tubas/Percussion will load instruments on bus, and instruments will be returned to DGS.  Students playing those instruments are asked to return to DGS to help put instruments away, but must provide their own transportation.

Successful Tour/Exchange Drawing to Closure

Congratulations to the members of the District 99 Orchestra on a successful and exciting international music exchange that has taken the ensemble to Croatia, Austria, and Germany over the past two weeks.  Reviews of the ensemble's concerts have been spectacular, and - maybe more importantly - students have made friendships (with one another, and with new acquaintances in Germany) that will literally last a lifetime.

The Fine Arts Departments of DGN and DGS are immensely proud of these students - and staff - for serving as wonderful musical and cultural ambassadors through our ongoing exchange program with the city and Musikschule of Bietigheim-Bissinngen.

A special note of thanks is extended to Fine Arts faculty member Ms. Jennifer Mullen for her tireless work to coordinate the hundreds of details that accompany the coordination of an international tour.

Safe travels home on your nation's birthday!

Drum Corps International in town Sunday!

This coming Sunday, July 6, the world renown Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps will be on the campus of Downers Grove North High School, practicing for a competition that will be held in Lisle, IL that evening. DGN & DGS student musicians - as well as family members and friends - are invited to come to the DGN campus and observe the ensemble as they rehearse.  If you have never seen a DCI corps "in action," you will never forget the power of the sound and the visual precision of the marching.

The corps rehearsal schedule for Sunday has not yet been released, but a typical day will include small group work in the morning (break out rehearsals for the brass, percussion and guard), and then full-corps work after a lunch break on the stadium field.

Because Phantom's coach buses and equipment trucks will be using the west parking lot, those who wish to observe should park in the Main Street lot, cross at the light, and then proceed on foot around the exterior of the Field House toward the stadium.

The Sunday evening DCI show, which is sponsored by The Cavalier's Drum & Bugle Corps, and held at Benedictine University in Lisle, IL, will be a showcase of the best marching arts ensembles in the world.  If you have the time to attend on Sunday night, you are strongly encouraged to buy tickets, and enjoy an amazing night of music and marching.  Details about the show in Lisle, and information about tickets may be found by clicking here.  Tickets may be purchased in advance online, or at the gate.
