40 hours in August and look what we've done........

The 2009 Marching Mustangs are hard at work in the month of August, having already accrued more than 40 hours of rehearsal time in AUGUST ALONE at the time of this post. The quantity and quality of rehearsals are paying huge dividends, as the band has already learned 2/3 of the music and drill for the 2009 Field Production.
Everyone is invited to Lakeview Middle School on Friday, August 21, 2009 at 5:00 PM for a hot dog picnic sposored by the Mustang Band Boosters. The evening will conclude with a short performance by your 2009 Marching Mustangs. For more information about bands at DGS, contact department chairperson Glenn Williams at 630.795.8681.

How do you get to Carnegie Hall?

In June of 2009, DGS graduated seniors Andrea Piekarczyk, Suse LaGory and Shaina Kassanof traveled to New York, New York to have their visual art work celebrated on a national level at the Scholastics National Art and Writing Awards. Accompanied by staff members Debbie Dipert and Michelle Lynn, these three student artists had their work on exhibit at world famous Carnegie Hall. "We are so proud of the success of these visual artists." said department chairperson Glenn Williams. "Their work has been consistently worthy of national recogniton, and to see that come to fruition is a fabulous conclusion to their time here in District 99."

2009 Madrigal Singers Graduation Concert

The amazing DGS Madrigal Singers concluded their season with the traditional graduation concert last night. The students performaned with musicianship, elegance, grace and sophistication beyond their chronological years. In addition to regcognizing the contributions of departing seniors, several students performed solos and duets from repertoire of their own choosing. If the performance level last night was any indicator of success, the DGS Choral Program has marvelously prepared these student musicians for success beyond the DGS Music Suite. Well done ladies and gentlemen - bravo!!!

Jazz in The Park 2009 (@ DGN)

Inclement weather precipated a venue change, however, the excellence of jazz performance in District 99 remained undampened last evening. The DGS and DGN Jazz Lab Bands and Jazz Ensembles performed in addition to the D99 All-Star Band directed by Bill Miller and Craig Roselieb. Highlights included mambo dancers, vocalists, and faculty guest artists from both campuses. Special thanks to the Downers Grove Park District for their continued support of this event, which kicks-off the Tuesday night Concerts in the Park series in Downers Grove.

Parents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Events of this nature are not possible without the army of parent volunteers that provide assistance and support throughout the day. We definitely had the best dressed parent crew of the parade route today - well done parents, and thanks!!!

Woodridge Memorial Day Parade

Nearly 100 members of the DGS Marching Mustangs provided musical support for the Woodridge Memorial Day Parade. The 2 mile long parade wove through the village of Woodridge, ending at Jefferson Junior High School. The Marching Mustangs were event #100 - bringing of the up of a fabulously organized parade.
