Congratulations to the South High School Wind Ensemble for their performance today at the University of Illinois Superstate. Performing and competing in Class 6A, the ensemble performed all four movements of Dana Wilson's Piece of Mind. The fabulous acoustics at Krannert made this musically mature ensemble sound even better. Congratulations to Mr. Roselieb, Mr. Hornish, and the students musicians in this amazing ensemble.
The sounds of the tropics resonated through the auditorium at DG South High School tonight as the Tropical Breeze alumni group concluded the performance evening. The only thing brighter than the shirts on the players was the smile on the faces of the audience members after this fabulous group concluded their performance tonight.
The DG South Concert Percussion Ensemble, coached by Dwayne Rawl, performed this evening, continuing to impress the audience with their technique and musicianship. The concluding Danse Bacchanale nearly brought the house to their feet. 
The Flute Choir, coached by Laurel Tempas, played with musical maturity and blazingly impressive technique.
Led by DG South visual art teacher Kathy Myles, DGS student ceramicists today embarked on the 11th annual Raku/Primitive Firing field trip. Raku pottery is created with a specific ceramic firing process that uses both fire and smoke to create unique patterns and designs. The student work that emerges from the smoke and fire of the day is visually stunning. Look for this brilliantly developed pieces during the coming Spring Art Show starting on Thursday, May 19, 2011. Way to go, DGS student ceramicists!!
Through competitive taped audition, the Jazz Ensemble from South High School in Downers Grove has been selected to perform at the 2012 Illinois Music Educators' Assocation All-State Conference on Thursday, January 27, 2012 at the Conference and Convention Center in Peoria, Illinois.
Numerous groups from the state of Illinois apply to perform at this pretigious state conference. With more than 5,000 members, the IMEA is one of the largest state professional music educator organizations in the nation. The IMEA sponsors and organizes performance festival experiences for the student musicians of Illinois and provides professional growth opportunities for the music educators of Illinois.
Pre-school aged students and their "high school friends" enrolled in the Parenting in the CTE Department class came to the music suite for an opportunity to listen to and actively explore making music on instruments.
Student musicians in Wind Symphony demonstrated on their instruments, then, an "Instrument Petting Zoo" was set up around the room that provided the pre-school aged children with the opportunity to try-out the instruments.
