The D99 Orchestra's 2014 European Tour has officially begun, and we invite you to follow the orchestra as they perform in Croatia, Austria, and Germany. Student and staff bloggers will be reporting and sharing pictures along the way.
Five District 99 Fine Arts students (including two recent graduates) were featured this evening in an exceptional concert at Millennium Park in Chicago. Ben Casey, Tim Edwards, Andrew Molina, Liam Morgan, and Amelia Smerz are all members of the prestigious Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, and performed tonight with Blue Man Group in a concert that featured works for the orchestra's upcoming tour to China.
Congratulations to these dedicated student musicians as they share their talents with one of the nation's premiere youth orchestras.

The South High School Choirs Class of 2014 added significantly to their in imitable sonic legacy tonight during the Madrigal Singers Graduation Concert. The craftsmanship and musicianship were remarkable from start to finish, from large ensemble to small groups and soloists. Of the long list of impressive occurrences during the evening, here is but a few:
The evening was totally learner centered - these students were in charge of their own musical destiny.
The repertoire was performed ARTISTICALLY.
The diversity of the repertoire represents the depth and breadth of the musicianship in the group.
These students care deeply about their craft, but they care even more about each other.
Even though the repertoire had lyrics, the expression emitted went way beyond words.
Everyone that remains at South High School owes a debt of gratitude to this senior class for establishing a wonderfully high performance bar, but perhaps even more, for setting that bar in a caring manner. Well done Class of 2014 - we'll miss your presence, but, we'll be reminded of if on a daily basis in the sights and sounds emanating from the music suite!
If you were unable to watch the concert tonight, it is archived for viewing on the High School Cube. Watch the concert by clicking here.
