2017 Madrigal Singers Graduation Concert

The South High School Choirs Class of 2017 added significantly to their inimitable sonic legacy tonight during the Madrigal Singers Graduation Concert.  The craftsmanship and musicianship were remarkable from start to finish, from large ensemble to small groups and soloists.  Of the long list of impressive  occurrences during the evening, here is but a few:
  • The evening was totally learner centered - these students were in charge of their own musical destiny.
  • The repertoire was performed ARTISTICALLY.
  • The repertoire performed featured student arrangements and compositions.
  • The diversity of the repertoire represents the depth and breadth of the musicianship in the group.
  • These students care deeply about their craft, but they care even more about each other.
  • Inter-generational sonic connections occurred when the alumni choir shared the stage.
  • Even though the repertoire had lyrics, the expression emitted went way beyond words.
  • The memories and moments expressed as remarkable by the students were centered around group travel and highlight performances.
Everyone that remains at South High School owes a debt of gratitude to this senior class for establishing a wonderfully high performance bar, but perhaps even more, for setting that bar in a caring manner.  Well done Class of 2017 - we'll miss your presence, but, we'll be reminded of if on a daily basis in the sights and sounds emanating from the music suite!

Special congratulations to Mrs. Coster for her career and pending retirement from South High School.  Your presence has made DGS a better place in so many ways.  Your dignity, elegance and class have changed us all for the better.  Your sonic imprint will continue here at South High School and in music education throughout the state of Illinois.  We hope you were surprised at least a little bit by the alumni choir tonight!  Thanks to DGS alum the Honorable David Olsen from the 81st District for presenting a proclamation this evening to Mrs. Coster on behalf of the General Assembly from the State of Illinois.
