2017 Spring Bands Concert

Congratulations to the students and staff affiliated with the Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony for preparing and presenting a tremendous Spring Band concert.  Each ensemble performed challenging repertoire with fluency and artistry.

Special congratulations and a fond farewell to the members of the Class of 2017 who performed their final concert at South High School tonight.  Your legacy is noticed and appreciated and you will be sorely missed next year and in the years to come.

Jazz in the Park - What a Night!

Congratulations to the student musicians and directors affiliated with the 5 District 99 Jazz Ensembles that opened the Summer Concert Series for the Downers Grove Park District last night at Veterans Memorial Pavilion in Fishel Park.   DGS Jazz Workshop, DGS Jazz Lab Band, DGN Jazz Lab Band, DGS Jazz Ensemble, DGN Jazz Ensemble, and the D99 Honors Jazz Band for a wonderful evening of music at Fishel Park!  Thanks to the community members in attendance last night for supporting live jazz music in our community!

We bid a fond farewell to the graduating members of the Class of 2017 from both South and North.  You've set an extremely high sonic bar for those left behind - best wishes in all of your future endeavors!

District 99 Jazz in the Park

You won't want to miss the 2017 "Jazz In The Park," tonight (6 PM) at Fishel Park in the Downers Grove Veterans Memorial Pavilion. 

The concert, which kicks off the Downers Grove Park District Summer Concert Series, will feature jazz bands from both DGS and DGN.

Bring a blanket, a lawn chair, or both. Food may be purchased from local vendors, or bring your own!

DGS Percussion & Steelpan Recital

Congratulations to the DGS Percussion Ensemble and Tropical Breeza Steelpan Ensemble for presenting their spring recital.  The 11 students, directed by Dwayne Rawl and Patrick Rheingruber, prepared and presented a fabulous evening of percussion and steel pan music.

2017 Spring Art Show and Senior Black Box Exhibit

Congratulations to the students and staff affiliated with the 2017 Spring Art Show.  Over 400 pieces of 2D and 3D work is on exhibit until Tuesday, May 23, 2017 in the West Events Foyer at South High School.  Thanks also to all the parent volunteers and Friends of Fine Arts for helping to set up and hang the show and for supporting the hospitality for the Show.

 Special congratulations to the Senior Artists displaying work in the Black Box.  This space provides seniors the opportunity to exhibit a one person show as part of a larger exhibit.  Each senior space features a senior artist statement, which is a personal expression of what it means to be an artist by each senior student.  

District 99 Orchestra Spring Concert

Congratulations to the student musicians in the District 99 Concert Orchestra and the District 99 Symphonic Orchestra for preparing and presenting an outstanding Spring Concert.  Both ensembles played a challenging program of repertoire with artistry and fluency.  The patrons in the hall were especially impressed by the full orchestra performing both Nabucco Overture  and Danzon No. 2 by Marquez.

Special kudos and congratulations to the D99 Orchestra members of the Class of 2017 - we will miss you and thank you for your dedication to our orchestra program.  We expect you all to join us this time next year, as alumni, to perform The Final Countdown. We also extend a hearty welcome home to all the alumni in attendance tonight - it was great to see you all!

2017 Spring Choir Concert

Congratulations to the student musicians in the Freshmen Girls Choir, Chamber Singers, Freshmen Select Girls, Concert Choir, Treble Choir, Treble Ensemble and Madrigal Singers for presented a fabulous spring concert this evening.  The repertoire ranged from Classical to Gospel, from Folk Song to Vocal Jazz, and, featured a student arrangement performed by Treble Choir.

Special congratulations to the members of the Class of 2017 performing this evening.  This includes a special "shout-out" to Mrs. Coster, the most "senior" member of the Class of 2017.
