Follow the US Army All-American Marching Band

If you would like to see Sam Tedeschi and the 124 other US Army All-Americans in the halftime show, your best bet is to follow the banddirector.com link. The network  broadcast the halftime show on Saturday, January 3, 2015.  Watch the US Army All-American Bowl on NBC and switch over to the banddirector.com feed just before halftime. Pre-game is at 11:00am. Want to see what they did all week? Banddirector.com will broadcast a recap show at 8pm on Friday Night. Congratulations to all the US Army All-Americans

Celebrate the season with these events....

Two outstanding groups, featuring both current and former DGS Fine Arts students, are performing in the Chicago-land area  during the next few weeks.  Take a moment to celebrate the season with the sights and sounds of these fabulous young artists.

On Sunday, December 28th, the group SOULED OUT will be performing at the Q Sports Bar in Darien at 7:00 PM.  Tickets are $7 at the door.  Follow SOULED OUT by "liking" their Facebook page.

Also on December 28th, THE RESOLUTION will be performing at the renowned House of Blues in Chicago.  Tickets are available at the door, or, by "liking" the Facebook page for THE RESOLUTION to procure advance sales tickets.

DGS Fine Arts is proud of these young artists for continuing to make music beyond the walls of South High School!

District 99 Bands at Carnegie Hall - Tickets on Sale Tuesday!

Tickets for the March 2, 2015 concert at Carnegie Hall will go on sale at 10:00 AM (CST) on Tuesday, December 23, 2014.

If you are traveling with Bob Rogers Travel as a part of the official "Fan Package," you do not need to order tickets independently.  Your seats have already been secured for you, prior to the public sale (and they are great seats!).

Pugi Hyundai Window Decoration Contest

Three teams of visual artists from South High School participated in the Pugi Hyundai Window Decoration Contest.  Participating students included:  Team 1 - Jennifer Shi, Josh Lilly, Emma Hansen;  Team 2 - Deonna Chambers, Maggie Sias, Lauren Wolfe; Team 3 - Richie Ray, Jordan Danalewich and Jocelyn Danalewich.

After a rigorous judging process, Team 3 was chosen as the best window for the work titled "Nightmare Before Christmas."  Thanks to these student artists for investing their time and talents in the community of Downers Grove.

Students, faculty, alumni, and pros form "Rhapsody in Blue" Jazz Orchestra for Carnegie Hall Finale

As preparations for the March 2, 2015 Carnegie Hall concert (#NYNouveau) continue, students, faculty, alumni and professional guest musicians joined forces this evening to rehearse the scheduled concert finale: an authentic recreation of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, as premiered in New York City by the Paul Whiteman Jazz Orchestra in 1924.

Under the baton of Northwestern University Professor Emeritus Don Owens, special guest musicians will include Ian Williams (piano soloist), Kristin Bowers (clarinet), Peter Wilson (violin), Lauren Wood (saxophone), and members of the Gaudete Brass Quintet.

2014 Winter Art Show - A video sampler............

Congratulations to the students and staff who created the 2014 Winter Art Show at South High School.  The foyer is abuzz with captivating sights from multiple media perspectives.  The show remains in exhibition until Tuesday evening, December 16, 2014.  Well done Mustang artists!

2014 Holiday Concert

Over 1,000 patrons visited South High School tonight to celebrate the student artists and musicians studying and producing art on a daily basis.  The combined bands, District 99 orchestra, and combined choirs performed a diverse and challenging program with passion and poise.  One highlight of the evening was the celebration in sight and sound of the 50th anniversary of South High School.  Thanks to each and every patron tonight that came to celebrate the work of the student musicians and visual artists - it was a great night to be a Mustang!

DGS Holiday Concert & Winter Art Show 2014 - we are ready!

The sights and sounds of the arts filled the halls today at South High School as final preparations were being made for the 2014 Holiday Concert and Winter Art Show.  On Thursday, December 12, 2014  Nearly 1,000 student artists and musicians will share their sounds and sights with the community of Downers Grove.  The art show opens at 6:00 PM in the West Events Entrance, the concert begins at 7:00 PM in the main gymnasium.  Admission to both is free, and the public is cordially invited to attend both events.

2014-2015 Pep Band

Congratulations to the 50+ members of the Mustang Basketball Pep Band who started their season on Friday, December 5, 2014.  This spirited ensemble is poised to continually add to the school spirit in the gym during the rest of the basketball season.

Artist of the Month - Hannah Wood

Be sure the visit the display case in the "C" hallway outside of the Fine Arts Lab C156.  This month features the work of senior Hannah Wood.  Hannah and more than 500 other student artists will be featured this week in the 2014 Winter Art Show in the West Events Foyer.

Madrigal Singers in "Christmas by the Fireside" at the Tivoli Theatre

Great job today by the South High School Madrigal Singers as they took part the the West Towns Chorus Christmas Show at the Tivoli Theatre.  The crowd was "wowed" by the poise, professionalism and musicianship of this fabulous ensemble!
