2013 Home Opener & Senior Night

Tonight was a great night to be a Marching Mustang!  The band performed their competition show, Artistry in Time, during halftime and received a tremendous ovation from the home football crowd.  Even more impressive than the half-time performance tonight was the collaboration of the band with the football team, and, the integration of the band into the student section in the stadium.  For the first time, the band and football team entered the stadium together, along with all the other spirit groups.  Then, after a rousing pre-game show, the band positioned itself in the stands in a new location, adjacent to the student section.  The coordinated and spirited cheering between the students, the band, and the cheerleaders was impressive.

Special kudos and congratulations to the students, parents and families in the Class of 2014.  This senior night is your first celebration of many during the course of the year.  We are proud of your work, and look forward to your continued success throughout the year until graduation.

Well done tonight Marching Mustangs - both on the field and in the stands you made us all proud to be Mustangs!

2013 South High School Academic Awards

Congratulations to students from South High School who received the Academic Award during the 2013 recognition ceremony.  In addition to numerous DGS Fine Arts students receiving awards for Academic achievement, several DGS Fine Arts students performed as part of the ceremony.  Senior Mara Alvarez sang the National Anthem to begin the event.  During the course of the awards ceremony, senior cellist Andrew Molina performed a movement of a Rachmaninoff concerto, and senior bassoonist Rachel Wydra performed a movement of a von Weber bassoon concerto.  Both students displayed why they were All-State musicians as juniors, and added an artistic dignity to the event that was impressive.
